If you guys follow our blog fairly regularly you know how much I love Nicole Reed. I was supposed to meet her (FINALLY) last weekend at the Houston Book Rave but she decided to get super sick and stay home! ***kidding*** Well she did get sick and stay home but it is not funny and I really hope she is feeling better. I was honestly looking forward to meeting her but I guess I will just have to wait. Anyways, I stumbled across Ruining Me and was so blown away by my reactions to the book. I read it in about 4 hours and then had to email Nicole the next morning. I couldn't wait for Ruining You and it was the same thing. Read it in hours and was amazed by it. So I felt like Wasted Heart was going to be a problem b/c there was no way she would do 3 in a row like that. Plus, I was not really a big Rhye fan in the first books.I don't know why I am surprised that Nicole did it again and blew me away. I ended up kinda loving Rhye. I mean he is so douche-tastic in this book and I read this book in one sitting. If you have not read the first to books....STOP NOW AND DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER...I AM GOING INTO SPOILER MODE!!!
I really got excited about this book after I read a teaser from Rhye talking about how he was the one that sent the VM to the whole school. One you know how much he really loved Jay and you get to see how bad he feels for setting everything into motion. It made me like him a little bit more. This book opens up a few years after high school and you see how far Rhye has fallen. He is a druggie and his career is basically in the toilet. His record label is giving him one last chance to get his act together. One of the things that amaze me about Rhye is his love of the super good girl. Jay was the perfect high school girl at first...cheerleader, dating the QB, everybody's friend...granted she was broken when they finally hooked up but he still couldn't believe that she would give him the time of day. Syn is the same way. Perfect good girl country singer. I think that says a lot about Rhye deep down. Plus, you know he is a good guy who is just really lost. He has always tried to do the right thing.
I like Syn. She is strong and doesn't automatically cringe away from Rhye since he is the typical bad boy...tattoos, drugs, girls, etc. She gives him a chance and if anything almost pursues him more than he does her. She also does what she thinks is best for him and gives him some stability...as in takes him to her ranch so they can just hang out without pressure and relax. I really like that she doesn't necessarily take crap from him either. There are some things but for the most part when he pisses her off she doesn't just back down from him.
I really like the way this book ended. I am not going to tell you why right here b/c I want you to read it and form your own opinions. I will say that Nicole is not always a warm, fuzzy, happily ever after author (which makes me wonder why I like her so much...I am all about the perfect endings...oh well that is for another day). Meet Nicole
I love angst….I thrive on it, but only the fictional kind. I adore a story that grips the reader from the beginning and doesn’t let go…EVER. I’m an avid reader who just recently discovered my love of writing. My favorite things in life include my three wild & crazy kids, Reese’s Pieces, and every genre of music. I reside in the Deep South.
Currently, I am writing a new adult/contemporary romance story that I can’t wait to share. I also plan to release Rhye’s story, Wasted Heart, in 2013.
