Synopsis

Everyone makes mistakes in life. Unfortunately, Holly Richards has become an expert at taking the wrong path in life. This time, she may have gone so far that she has alienated the one person who has always been there for her. Will she be able to make the right decision for once in her life?

Tommy Reed’s world shifted the night he found Holly Richards lying in a pool of blood on the ground. For reasons he can’t explain, he feels the need to protect Holly from her own past. So I guess I need to start out by saying if you have not read Unexpected Angel you need to do that. It is the book before this one and it was a really good book. You get to meet everyone and get a feeling for what everyone's roles are in the group.

I am enjoying this series. I liked Unexpected Angel and was looking forward to Unexpected Protector. I am not going to lie...I do not like Holly. I have said this before and I will say it again but I am apparently very judgemental and unforgiving. I found it very hard to be sympathetic with her character. Part of me thinks this is b/c I love Tommy so much and don't think she is good enough for him. I also really like Tasha and don't understand how she could screw her over the way she did. I do like the way that Sloan showed Holly trying to get through the drug addiction and how Holly really did not expect anyone to forgive her. I also like the way that Sloan describes the BDSM and it is not all the whips and chains you normally think of. It is a nice change in the D/s portrayals.

Tommy is awesome. I loved him in Unexpected Angels (not as much as Zeke but close) and I liked him even more in this book. He is a cop and a good guy. He is at a point in his life where he is a little lost and unsure of where to go. I like that he ok with that and is trying to figure out his own life while trying to help Holly.

The cliffhanger in this book is RIDICULOUS! I mean WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED??? I love and hate cliffhangers and Sloan did a great job of making my jaw hit the floor. I can't wait for the next book and I want to see how everything plays out. I am giving this book 4 out of 5 stars. I recommend it!!!
